Suicidal Thoughts and Feelings 

No matter how much pain you’re experiencing right now, you’re not alone. Many of us have had suicidal thoughts at some point in our lives.

Suicidal feelings can mean having abstract thoughts about ending your life or feeling that people would be better off without you.

Or it can mean thinking about methods of suicide or making clear plans to take your own life.

If you are feeling suicidal, you might be scared or confused by these feelings. You may find the feelings overwhelming.

Feeling suicidal is not a character defect, and it doesn’t mean that you are crazy, weak, or flawed. It only means that you have more pain than you can cope with right now.

You may feel or think…

  • Hopeless, like there, is no point in living.
  • Tearful and overwhelmed by negative thoughts.
  • Unbearable pain that you can’t imagine ending.
  • Useless, not wanted or not needed by others.
  • Desperate, as if you have no other choice.
  • Like everyone would be better off without you.
  • Cut off from your body or physically numb.
  • Fascinated by death.

“When I reflect back to when I felt suicidal, I still find it hard to believe I was in a place so dark and contemplating, on taking my own life”.

“I believed there was no other way forward and I felt it was the only way to stop the pain. Looking back, I realise now there was a way forward, I just couldn’t see past the dark mist, and feelings of being so overwhelmed”.
